If you have a passion for boasts we could help you! Are you looking to buy your first boat? Not quite sure where to start?
There are a few things you should consider. Firstly whether you are buying the boat with the intention to live on it or have it as a hobby. You should think about where you are going to be taking your boat, down narrow canals or out to sea?
There are hundreds of online sources to help you narrow down a good and decently priced boat that can fit all of your requirements.
The hotels and restaurants provide Scottish Highlands hospitality to boaters –salmon, wild birds and venison are regional specialities – as well as of course haggis and whisky! For supplies there are shops and more services in the bigger towns.
There are several piers and mooring places on Loch Ness and the Great Glen, mostly free of charge. The short canal has only 10 locks, all managed by keepers.
Along the canal you can angle, walk, go mountain biking, ride a pony, and perhaps see an eagle or osprey – even the Loch Ness monster!
You may spot fishing boats, yachts, perhaps occasional small ships. Previous experience is not necessary as boating is only in non-tidal waters.
The Caledonian Canal and Loch Ness provide a boating holiday with amazing views in stunning scenery.
There are many jetties and places to moor along the Caledonian Canal and Loch Ness. Most are free of charge. The restaurants, pubs and hotels welcome boating tourists and there are fully-stocked shops in villages as well as the full services of the bigger towns.
Fort William and Ben Nevis, Britain's tallest mountain, is at one side of the Great Glen, and Inverness with its brilliant castle is at the other. South of Inverness at Drumnadrochit it is worth visiting the Loch Ness Monster Exhibition.
From Fort Augustus the canal turns through the leafy shores of Loch Oich to Loch Lochy and the sailing base at Laggan Locks. South of here is Banavie and the scenic West Highland Railway line. East Lothian is another great place to sail around, full of picture-perfect scenes.
